chapter 8-10

lots of things happen in this 3 chapters. First of all , Lucy faces her biggest issue- sleepwalking, but thankfully Mina finds her before anything happen. But, the interesting thing is that of all the places to choose from, Lucy went to the church and that too on a full moon night. This is interesting because full moon is often associated with evil and it is told that all the evils are in their full potential in that night. This could be a mere coincidence or a sign of something deadly going to happen. The other thing was that Mina wrote in her journal that Jonathan wrote her and that he was sick. This is really confusing because we have heard no news of Jonathan after he attacked Count and was stuck in the castle. After that there is also the letter from Sister Agatha stating that Jonathan is in their care for six weeks. So did Jonathan succeeded from getting out of that place?
In chapter 9 Mina goes to attend Jonathan and sister Agatha tells her that Jonathan has been very sickly but couldn`t dare to say anything more. It is also hinted that Mina got married to Jonathan as she addressed herself to as Mina Harker and not Mina Murray. Dr. Steward mentions that his patient`s case has been getting more interesting. Mr. Holmwood also writes a letter to Dr. Steward stating that Lucy has been very well and it doesnt seem as if she has some illness ,but, is gradually getting weaker and weaker. in the reply to the letter, Dr.steward states that Lucy seems bloodless. This could have a literal meaning or could be a metaphor. Later, Arthur gives his blood to Lucy as she seems to be in a really critical condition. After Arthur left Dr. steward finds a mark in Lucy`s neck that seemd liked a two punctured holes. This could be the mark left by a vampire after biting its victim. But the important thing is who did it? Did the Count came to England?

chapter 6 and 7

Chapter 6

This chapter is made up of three parts - Mina journal , Dr. Seward`s diary and again Mina`s diary.

Mina `s jounal

This is a really great twist in the story as it leaves Jonathan`s point of view behind and follows the life from Mina`s point of view. Mina`s journey is really exciting to read as it gives readers smallest of the details and describes the surroundings in great detail ,so we as readers can picture the surrounding really well while we read it. This journal is about her meeting with Lucy and describing the place she is in. They talk about their love life at the enf of the day and Lucy talks about her upcoming wedding where mina feels a littel heart-sick as she hadnt talked to Jonathan for a whole month.

At the next part of her journal she expresses her sadness about Jonathan and Lucy. She talks about Lucy`s sleepwalking problem and a suspicious letter from Jonathan which she tells that he would never write like that. She also gives littele details like Mr. Holmwood being called because his father is sick and shows concerns for Lucy thinking that she would be lonely without him. She herself is feeling lonely without Jonathan and is constantly worrying about him. She is also concerned about the bad strom that is going to hit the country.

Dr.Seward`s journal
The journal starts from him talking about one of his patient whom he feels is really interesting. He then goes on describing about his patients habits and how he has weird pet hobbies like catching flies and spiders. He also tells that his patient might not exactly be wha he seems and may have some greter problem inside of him as he keeps on jotting down things hie notebook, the one he always keeps with him. At last he talks about how he wants to only be hopeless and work after Lucy`s rejection on which he doesnt show any anger towards her or her love.

Chapter 7

This chapter consists of a really long newspaper atrticle about a strom and is followed by Mina`s journal.

Newspaper article
The newspaper aticle is about the sudden strom disaster that hit the nation by surprise. This could be the storm that Mina was talking about in the previous chapter. It is shown that many people were caught in this storm and many of them died.

Mina`s journal

It was the night while the atrom took place and both Mina and Luvy were very restless and couldnt sleep. But, somehow Lucy got slept and woke up twice and dresses herself ,but fortunately Mina wook up just in time to undress her without waking her up and making her lie on the bed.

Next day they both goes to attend the funeral of the sea-captain.She explains that Lucy seemed restless but didnt knew the reason herself. Captain also had a face full fear and horror and people told that he died which he was fallen back from his seat as he was frightened. I think that the death of the man was really suspicous beacuse of his face and what the doctor told them.

chapter 5

This chapter is basically full of letters and telegrams exchange between the characters. This letters tells us about the relationships between the characters and give brief view on them. the first letter is from Mina to Lucy. In this letter we finally know that Mina is engeged to be married to Jonathan. This letter also indicates thatthey are really close as Mina is working really hard to match up with Jonathan`s studies and wants to help out. The surprising and more accurately confusing bit about this letter is that Mina tells Lucy that Jonathan wrote to her and said that he is coming back in about a week. This is surprising for me ,as a reader, as i know that Jonathan is trapped in Count`s castle and he couldnt havr written a letter.

The second letter is a reply to Mina from Lucy. This letter gives an in-depth information into close relation shared between Mina and Lucy as we come to know that they are chilhood friends and share lots of secrets. This letter also tells us about Lucy`s new found love. Another part is also a letter from Lucy to Mina where she tells her that three guys proposed to her in same day, but she refused as she already had someone she cared for. The first guy she refused was the doctor she mentioned in earlier letter. She told that she felt really bad for him as he look so unhappy. And the next person she refused was an American from Texas , a jolly fellow. She mentions that she didnt feel so bad for him as he was so straight-forward and a happy fellow. She mentions that he was really great as she gave him a kiss and tells that girls would even worship the very ground that he is walking on right now. The most surprising thing that Lucy says is that she felt so bad and that she couldnt marry all of the three guys like a man could. This is surprising because this novel was written more than 100 years ago and having that kind of thought shows her broad mind. She mentions that the third and last person that porposed to her was infact Arthur. The following articles are just a diary from Dr. Seward that tells about his camping trip and his letter to Mr. Holmwood telling him about it.

chapter 4

Jonathan wakes up next morning not knowing how he got there but, later presumes that he may have been brought by Count. He begins to notice small things like unwinded watch and folded clothes. This could mean that Count might have done this so that Jonathan may think that last night was just his vicious imagination. Then Jonathan begins to think the the very room that he is in right now is kind of like a sanctuary to him as nothing can be as dangerous as the three ladies he met last night.
He pays a second visit to the room, but, this time in a broad daylight. But, to his surprise he finds the door forcefully closed. He remembers Count asking him to write three fakes letters which he couldn`t oppose because he knows Count`s powers over him. The three fake dates that Count gave him to write in the letters gives Jonathan a faint hint on his death date.
He secretly passes his letters to Szany and signals them to post it but fears that Count may find out about Jonathan`s knowledge about Count. Next morning Jonathan finds all of his belongings gone including his notes, scrap papers, overcoat. Then he saw a man wearing his coat and heading to town. This could mean that Count may want to show other people that Jonathan was safe in Translyvania. He later follows a cry and finds a distressed woman asking for her child.

He then begins to make a theory that Count may sleep in the day which explains why he haven`t seen Count in daylight - ever. Now he wants to go and have a peek into Count`s room and even succeeds but finds nothing but old furniture that barely seems to have been used. Then he follows a door and ends up in an old chapel where Count laid - dead or asleep. He wants to clear his confusion and tries to find life in that body, but, to his shock finds no life in him and fleds away from there. Later Count tells him to go tommorow but Jonathan insists on going today and to his surprise Count opens all the doors. But, he thinks again and listens to Count and decides to leave tommorow.
A desperate man does eveything in his limits and even over it. And, Jonathan proves this by going to the Count`s coffin again and searching for the key to his eternal freedom from the demon`s castle. He then grows a strong desire to finish this monster from the face of the earth and hits him with the shovel and tries to runs away from there but fails. Then greed gets him and he wants to get the gold in Count`s room and escape from there and not be in the same castle as those bloodthirsty monsters.

dracula chapter 3

after finding out the bitter truth that he was imprisoned, jonathan decides to remain quite and pretend that nothing ever happened. this may have been the only thing he could have done to keep himself safe, even if it is for few moments. he even thanks the old lady that gave him a crucific which he earlier didnt care about.

Jonathan tries to involve dracula into a conversation so that he wont suspect him. they talk about the history of translyvania. the interesting fact about this conversation is that when he talks about his house dracula talks in plural even though Jonathan had discovered or rather presumed the fact that dracula was the only one in the house. he tells Jonathan to write a letter to Mr.Hawkins but not write anything outside of the work. he also tells or more like command Jonathan to stay behind with authority and royalty reflecting in his cold eyes. Jonathan agrees thinking that he is no more than a mere servant of his duty and a prisoner.

dracula warns jonathan to not sleep in any part of the castle except for his room which i again think is pointless because he is a "guest" in dracula`s castle and he wouldnt roam around and sleep anywhere he wants. he doesnt finish his last sentence but rather "completes" it with an action of washing his hands.this could imphathize the fact that he is warning Jonathan and it wouldnt be good if he disobeys it.

then what Jonathan now witnessess was completely out of the world. he saw dracula crawl out of his window with his face downwards like an animal. the way this whole chapter comes together is quite interesting in a way. in this chapter Jonathan witnessess the terrror of the place he is living in, develops a feeling of insecurity and witnesses a real life devil at the end of his wit.

after dracula crawled his way out his palace, Jonathan goes on the search of his impossible freedom. he searches for the way out even though he knew he couldnt and finds a locked door. but, for his much surprise the door was just jammed and not locked. like anyone would, he goes inside of the room to find it deserted but with a comfortable air around it.he remembers a line from shakepeare`s hamlet and implies it with his current situation. then he disobeys dracula`s orders and decides to sleep in there but is qucikly waken up by three beautiful ladies. he noticies the fact that they didnt have shadows.surprisingly enough he begins to harvour a feeling lust for them. i think that Jonathan felt this way because the ladies were vampires and could have been able to cast anyone in their magic. and, when one of the ladies nearly bit Jonathan, he has a narrow escape when dracula interfares and tells them to backoff because Jonathan was his and they could have him after he was finished with him. then he throws something in a bag at them which seems like a struggling child.

after witnessing all that terror Jonathan falls unconcious..................
