dracula chapter 2

the second chapter starts with a new and more "happy" feeling than what we left off in the end of the previous chapter . Jonathan talks about how beautiful the Dracula`s castle is with the heavy stone works worned by wheather and time.

in the second paragraph he has lots of questions surrounding him about him being there and if it really was happening with him. he also thinks about how he wants all of these to be a horrible nightmare and he were to be awake in his bed. this paragraph also tells us more about the actual reason why Jonathan was here. he expalins that by saying that he is a solicitor that was sent out to explain the purchase of a london estate to the foreigner.

the story moves on by introducing us to Count Dracula. his appereance is quite contradicting to what the readers might assume him to be because of what we have learnt in the previous chapter. from the previous chapter we have build up an image of Count Dracula to be an evil man and suspicious looking like his butler. but instead, he looked rather old, clean shaven with a white moustache like a stereotypical posh man. this may have been done so that the readers or Jonathan might not suspect him.

Count Dracula behaves like a good host and servers him well like any gentleman would to his guest. during the supper, Jonathan gives us a close and detailed view of Count Dracula. he mentions the fact that his mouth is evil looking and his nails were cut in pointing shape. slowly fears build up inside of Jonathan that he doesnt want to confess even to himself.

Jonathan and Count Dracula has a rather normal and formal conversation and from this conversation we found out that Count Dracula is fond of London. but, i think that he chose to talk about London because Jonathan was from london and he knew about it very well. so by talking about what he knew he would be more comfortable with Dracula. he also forbids Jonathan from going to the locked room which i think is pointless because then he would be more interested in going there. then it could also have been that he would have wanted Jonathan to see something that he shouldnt have.

at the end of the chapter, he begins to feel more insecure than he previously was and thinks that he is the only living soul in that place. next morning what awaited him was a sheer horror that he wouldnt have ever imagined. the evil truth that he discovered and to find himself trapped in that. he discovered that Count Dracula was a vampire and that he had no reflection. and in top of that he also dicovered that the Count`s beautiful castle kept him hostage-the one from which he couldnt escape, never!!!

side note...............break the wall..............canon ball and then lets escape..............XD

Dracula chapter 1

The first chapter is a basic background of the character introduced at the start of the chapter. This chapter shows how he ended up getting interested in the mysterious city of "Transylvania" to meet a nobleman Count Dracula. The chapter is written in a diary form to make the readers feel as if the stories is truth. The chapter starts with Jonathan Harker in a train giving us precise time of his journey to further emphasis the fact that what the readers are reading is truth.

this chapter also shows us the brief overview of the deadly future that is ahead of the author. this can be proven by the fact that the old lady gives Jonathan a rosary and warns him about the awakening of the evils in the eve of the St.george`s day.the old woman evens falls to his feet and begs him not to go .another hint that the author gives us to make us aware of the dark path ahead are the people making the sign of the cross and pointing two fingers towards him to show their sympathy as it meant guard from an evil spirit.

the landscape also makes us thinks about the beauty of nature and it is described so beautifully that you get and insight image of what the author wanted us to see. the man who came to recieve Jonathan also had the mysterious air around him like he was a much greater and unusual being than a normal human. his whole appereance seems suspicious as he wore long dark coat and had red eyes and lips and sharp ivory teeth. as he appered in the scence a fellow passenger whispered " denn die todten reiten schnell" which literally translates to " for the dead travels fast". this could also be another warning sign for Jonathan which he supposedly igonores.

as he travels in the carriage he comes across a huge ruined castle with large glass windows. this feature of the castle shows that it was perhaps influnced by the gothic arhitecture. at the last page of this chapter the readers can quite imagine what the situation would have been like if they were in place of Jonathan because the author greatly describes the dark and haunting surrounding him. the heavy air around him and the accompany of the hawling wvoles with the moonlight also gives us that chill feeling. this also leads the readers into the darkness and the evil world of a devil.

side note....if i were Jonathan then i would have never gone to that wierd palce at the first place with all those people warning me...............................XD
