chapter 5

This chapter is basically full of letters and telegrams exchange between the characters. This letters tells us about the relationships between the characters and give brief view on them. the first letter is from Mina to Lucy. In this letter we finally know that Mina is engeged to be married to Jonathan. This letter also indicates thatthey are really close as Mina is working really hard to match up with Jonathan`s studies and wants to help out. The surprising and more accurately confusing bit about this letter is that Mina tells Lucy that Jonathan wrote to her and said that he is coming back in about a week. This is surprising for me ,as a reader, as i know that Jonathan is trapped in Count`s castle and he couldnt havr written a letter.

The second letter is a reply to Mina from Lucy. This letter gives an in-depth information into close relation shared between Mina and Lucy as we come to know that they are chilhood friends and share lots of secrets. This letter also tells us about Lucy`s new found love. Another part is also a letter from Lucy to Mina where she tells her that three guys proposed to her in same day, but she refused as she already had someone she cared for. The first guy she refused was the doctor she mentioned in earlier letter. She told that she felt really bad for him as he look so unhappy. And the next person she refused was an American from Texas , a jolly fellow. She mentions that she didnt feel so bad for him as he was so straight-forward and a happy fellow. She mentions that he was really great as she gave him a kiss and tells that girls would even worship the very ground that he is walking on right now. The most surprising thing that Lucy says is that she felt so bad and that she couldnt marry all of the three guys like a man could. This is surprising because this novel was written more than 100 years ago and having that kind of thought shows her broad mind. She mentions that the third and last person that porposed to her was infact Arthur. The following articles are just a diary from Dr. Seward that tells about his camping trip and his letter to Mr. Holmwood telling him about it.
